Mystery solved! Bump vs Hump
Finally the mystery has been solved. It has perplexed and vexed me for years (I'm listening to a rap stream from France on FG right now so I'm rhyming I guess...) as to why some signs say 'Speed Bump' vs 'Speed Hump'. I have always wondered but was just taking a break from my marketing progress report and browsed this discussion. Then someone emailed me right after (it was a work email and purely coincidental!) and told me he was recovering from an accident involving a speed bump - and the rest is history. He is a freelance writer based in Canada and I thank him for having enlightened me!
The answer:
"There are two types. One is to serve as a means of slowing down vehicles on a stretch of road, the other works when you are driving too fast and thenyou feel the effect. "
Sounds reasonable to me. Wow, who knew pavement could have such subtle differences! Oh wait - I guess I know better than anyone! (Ed. note: the author works for a concrete pavement trade association!)
