The Washington Post Responds to my Ex-Gay Article Complaint Letter
Just got this in the mail from the Washington Post:
"Thank you for writing to us. We are interested in using your comments in our Interactions column, but in order to do so we need to get proper identification of you by name, address and telephone number. The column will only identify you by name and community of residence; the other information is for our records. If you do not wish to have your comments used,
please let us know as soon as possible. You can reach us by replying to this message or by calling ---- ---- at 202-123 -4567. Thank you again."
Wow - that's very cool. I'm glad they have responded and want to use my comments. I am happy to see that they are actually interested in reader opinions. This is what defines a good newspaper vs a bad newspaper. I know that some readers of my blog and exgaywatch.com don't completely share my assessment of the article but I would hope people would agree that the dialogue is productive. Again, not sure why I reacted so quickly and with so much energy but I am glad I did. If you know me this is to be expected. The more who stand up for GLBT rights and respect the better chance we have to change public and political opinion. Throwing hands up and proclaiming nothing can be done is a cop-out (understandable and I get that way too sometimes) - in our short American history ordinary citzens have changed the prevailing views that were considered unchangeable. For example: after Plessy it seemed to some that the fight for unsegregated equality was at the "end of the line" [get the reference? points if you do]. Then in 1954 all that changed with Brown some 58 years later yes, but it changed and it took people standing up to do it.
Not a sermon, just a thought. [2 more points if you get that reference from the DC area]

In other news... I am waiting for tomorrow to come to hear the outcome of yesterday morning's interview. I feel good and am glad I don't have long to wait but grrr it is so hard to concentrate esp. with this long meeting in Canada looming next week! -Update: they are calling my references!!! Plus my friend said the call was very short and seemed like a formality! :-)

Thanks for commenting on my blog TOS. YEs, the article was very one-sided. Your comments when published, will present a more balanced opinion of how this hogwash impacts gays and lesbians who just want to live their lives and not be submitted to such quack and nonsense.
All the best to you. I know how anxious you are about Canada.

Though let me not let the horrid meeting interfere with my love obsession with Canada... I've always wanted to go to Halifax just wish it wasn't for this! I was lucky to have 45 mins for lunch in Vancouver while on my way to Whistler (and that was only b/c i had to drive someone to the airport) Otherwise the only things I saw in BC were the highway, airport and Fairmont Hotel :-(
