Who is John Roberts? America Needs to Know.
Who is John Roberts? America Needs to Know.
From my good friends at Lambda Legal
"On September 6, 2005, the U.S. Senate will begin confirmation hearings on President Bush’s nomination of John Roberts to the U.S. Supreme Court. Lambda Legal has serious concerns about the Roberts nomination. His record on reproductive freedom, the right to privacy and other issues important to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and HIV-affected Americans raises troubling questions.
For more than 30 years, Lambda Legal has been fighting for our rights in court. We’ve used this experience to draft a petition outlining the 30 questions senators must ask Roberts on behalf of our communities. We will hand-deliver the petition with thousands of signatures to senators before the hearings.
Help us put pressure on the Senate to ask Roberts the tough questions. "
Sign Lamba Legal's petition and help John Roberts' confirmation be less of a forgone conclusion than people are making it out to be... hell, maybe, just maybe he'll be exposed for the radical conservative I think he actually is!
Why you should care? Read Lambda's 30 questions to help understand what’s at stake for LGBT and HIV-affected communities in the Roberts nomination. Then sign the petition and use the Tell-a-Friend feature (or put it on your blog).
And it wouldn't be my blog if I didn't ask you to support Lambda Legal’s campaign to keep our courts fair and independent. Fight bigotry. Donate now. All you itemized deduction-type people - if you need a lil extra push to donate, unlike lobbying organizations like HRC contributions to Lambda Legal is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and therefore your donations are tax-deductible (in most cases).

i think at this point john roberts nomination is a foregone conclusion. looking at it from a truly objective basis, there just isn't much there to hold him back. they can't make him answer any particular question. even the repubs didn't attempt to do so upon the nomination of ruth bader ginsberg by clinton. she sailed thru and is arguably one of the top 3 most liberal justices. the only real hope is that roberts will be a conservative in the o'connor/kennedy mold and not in the scalia/thomas mold. there simply is no way to stop him just because he's likely to be conservative. i know that and he'd surely not be my choice for the next justice. also ... let's just hope rehnquist holds out and w. doesn't get a second nominee. one won't dramatically change the balance of the court. 2 very well could.
