A former blogoholic I have stopped the blog for now. I need to focus on teaching and living my life with my best Boo and pup! See you around the cybersphere!

Frozen

Even though it's freezing in my apt I'm pretty fired up! All was going great yesterday until I hopped into the shower last night to be greeted with frosty water. Earlier in the day my shower wasn't scalding hot but I didn't pay it much heed b/c the heat was on... well long story short, I have no gas service to my apt. I don't know why. The rest of the building is fine and apparently there is no valve or switch I could have accidentally turned off in my apt... So it being 20 degrees out last night I called Washington Gas - since it was 9:15pm they were closed! So I contacted the emergency line where the helpful (not!) rep told me to check with my maintenance man. Well I have already done so and he said that I wasn't cut off (of course dumbass I pay my bills ontime and my balance is $0.00, I checked) and that I needed to talk to the building and not the gas company.

Of course I went back to the building and they couldn't do anything b/c there is nothing for them TO DO - they said I am supposed to call the gas company. So I am now on the phone ON HOLD with these idiots. I called the emergency line last night a second time and was told that lack of heat was not an emergency unless I smelled gas - she told me to call customer service and then promptly hung up on me.

So here I sit - the worst thing is the boo came in from his place in VA last night so he could sleep later and have a short commute to his new job (today is his first day and he now works downtown :-) so of course we had to go back to VA last night so we could shower this am. What a waste of time, if the gas company was more customer friendly maybe we could have avoided all that. Oh well, he's happy and at his new job now (looks cute too in his tie!) and I decided to stop home and call the gas company before work.

I have now been on hold for 15 minutes... this is ridiculous. If I found out they turned my service off without notifying me for ANY REASON the mayor's helpline is next on my list... then my city councilman...

In other news the semester is coming to a close. YAY. But I still need to pick a class for next semester. Since I am a non-degree seeking student at this point I couldn't pre-register so by now most of the classes are closed out... but I am still looking plus honestly I don't know what I want to take anyhow... I am going to see if there is someone who can advise me on a potential careerpath (i.e. what degrees can do what for me... what are the good programs within GW for someone who is strong in languages, linguistics, communications, writing etc.) I am looking at International Affairs but that program is going to be very hard to do while working 9-6 fulltime even with some flexibility for 4pm classes. So we'll see...

I do know I don't want to be in the business world. I am strongly considering starting with a Master's in Education. I have taught before and "chalk is in my veins" as my mother (a teacher) and my father (professor) both said. Though I would like to stay at the university level so we'll see - ultimately I want to get into a Ph.D program. :-)

The gasman is coming btw 9 and 5 today... so I am going to try to stay home and work. grrrrrr though yay if I can do it - I'll get way more done! :-)

I always liked living in MD during the winter, because there, if you don't have dial tone, gas or electricity in the winter, they'll ruh right out. They live in fear of the public service commision and the newspapers detailing how people died of cold in their apartments.

yes call the city helpline, then call the PSC and then your councilmember. If you live in Ward 1, things will speed up mighty fast. The apartment building could be more receptive.
