A former blogoholic I have stopped the blog for now. I need to focus on teaching and living my life with my best Boo and pup! See you around the cybersphere!

My blonde ambition.... walking down hair memory lane

This was December 29, 2001 - I'd always wanted to go blond... so in an attempt to shock and awe my parents, friends and co-workers - I spent well a lot of money to make my hair a fair shade of blondish platinum. This required 3 bleachings and a tone - and about 3 hours sitting under a steamer... but they took pity on me and plied me with wine... I was the hit of the salon... Irony point - at this time I was STILL trying to claim I was "straight"... Topher needs to get a blog - he tells the story the best!

I loved it though - in retrospect it was one of the things that helped me come out... and what a big step it was! I guess I just needed to look different so I could get used to "feeling" different. And in a way it was a big test to see if people still (hate to say it) loved me for me... and of course they did. But I was 25 and had a hair across my ass to be defiant - and you know what - it was FUN! Plus it got me my one and only nationally distributed set of ads for the paper I was working for at the time... Hardly a model (especially since I didn't get jack for pay - just a hearty handshake and notoriety in the company cafeteria (well everyone knew me already - I had a lot of friends at that company but once I had the hair - well... everybody knew me... Plus I'd strut around the office in tight jeans, a tight t-shirt and sneakers... Plus that hair... Somehow I got away with it - I was in .com and the Marketing Department so either people were too scared to say something or they just thought I was a weird marketing fag anyhow - it worked for me though :-)

Countless boyfriends have recoiled at these photos (ok the first 2) and lots of people say they like me better with my regular hair... but as I was looking through old photos tonight I can't help but fondly remember my golden (well peroxided) locks... Ahhhhhh memories... Hmm I may have blogged about this before - but as April approaches I start thinking more and more about my coming out period.... fyi my gay birthday is on April 4th - start shopping now ;-)

i had my blonde phase, too. back when i was 13 i decided to "go blonde" ... so i did what any normal 13-year-old gay-but-don't-know-it-yet boy did. SUN-IN. Yes, and I had a bowl cut. My hair was neopolitan ... blonde on top, orange in the middle, and brown on the bottom. Plus I was wearing a lot of neon shirts then, so i looked like total trash.

being a blonde of the natural variety, i have a hard time understanding anyone's desire to be one ... as i myself much prefer dark hair and have often thought of dying mine dark dark dark but with my pale skin i might end up looking vampirish.
