Going for Broke... why one film should be the one to rule them all!
The day is here... Oscar night. The day where I go to a party to mock the way celebrities are dressed at an even honoring movies I haven't even seen and probably don't plan to... But this year is different... I saw one (hell actually I think I saw two...) - Brokeback Mountain and I think it should win it all.If you are a bitchy, jaded queen who wants to be all vanilla-white-superior and feels entitled to roll your eyes, snicker or make some point remark about how utterly obvious or trite that is - well just piss off. I don't care. Please go back to trying in vain to be noticed.
I am not an Oscar buff - I honestly don't get off on how critics vote for movies. I am my own best critic and I like what I like. But I want Brokeback Mountain to win and win big. I was blown away by the movie which had me crying for weeks. It was so poignant, thought provoking, artly shot and just plain beautiful - it aught to clean up and in such a way as to point a big upturned middle finger at conservative, bigoted middle America and any Bush neo-con bandwagoneers. I want the movie about the gay cowboys (yes they were gay gay gay - don't you dare try to say it was about 2 men with a special kind of love! It wasn't - it was two men in love and who had sex with each other = GAY LOVE. Just because you aren't at the parade doesn't make you any less queer. To not say the characters weren't gay is an insult to the movie and the straight men who acted it so well.)
So be ready all you religious zealots - I hope you have a church to run to when you see that society loved Brokeback Mountain in box office receipts and hopefully the critics did as well.
Besides - at the very least we gays have had you squirming for 6 months now, that alone deserves an award.
I'm trite, uninspired and my hope is that Brokeback Mountain breaks them all - fingers crossed!

I'm hoping you haven't done major bodily damage to yourself, since it didn't win.
"There's always tomorrow."
Whoops. Wrong movie.
