State of disgust
I got my wallet stolen at work today. Long story short, I had taken it out for a minute, put it down on my desk when one of my employees called me and 10 minutes later it was gone. Careless of me? Ok I guess but maybe I was just a little too naive to think that a building with a security guard, 4 people all within 15 feet of my office, and it being quiet and no suspicious characters lurking around - would be a safe place to put my wallet, out of plain sight, on my desk for 10 minutes... luckily they found it in the stairwell with only my $10 cash in it (haha mr. thief - broke ass wanna be poor teacher ain't got no money bitch!) and all my credit cards... I cancelled all of them - though I knew it was stolen and not lost when I saw $60 transactions on the Metro farecard machines within minutes of noticing it was gone... they even tried to charge gas (in you guessed it - Ward 8, zip code 20003 - aka Anacostia, crime central) on my University corporate card - but were denied b/c of the restrictions on the card (for once red tape helped!)
Now I just need to fix the mess of getting new cards and switching out all my auto-pay information before I go on vacation. I already put a fraud alert on my credit report as well. The cop said I did a great job in reporting everything.... I'm a little pissed at myself but if you saw my office and how quiet it was this afternoon you'd be pissed too! The cop said it was clearly an inside job and this is not the 1st time, it happens on campus all the time (and they have more security and cameras...)
Anyhoo protect your shit everyone... society blows and nothing is safe, ever. Oh and if you see someone in Ward 8 trying to buy gas with a bogus GW Mastercard and has $200 in Metro farecards to sell, please let me know...
GRRRRRR
In other news - it was WARM AND GORGEOUS in DC today. Rode my bike to work after taking the morning off and sleepin' in with that cute Boo of mine :-)
