Oh my word... that is SO big
Yes people the Scarebus A380 is almost here... Check out the video. That plane is just massive. I don't know about it. I'm sure it's safe, but I've always been a 747-400 man myself... Maybe I am overly patriotic but I just like Boeing's bigger planes better. Now when it comes to narrowbodies I'm all over the 319, 320 and 321 (never been on a 318...yet) you can keep the 737. But gimme a 744 or a 777 anyday. Both planes are a joy to ride. The 767 is ok, I like widebodies over a narrowbody anyday.I'm a plane geek... I didn't fly until I was 16 (Northwest Airlines from BOS to DCA (Washington National) roundtrip. It was an A320 both ways. Very nice flights - breakfast on the way down and dinner on the way back (cold salmon with a little bottle of wine - and they even left the wine on my setup, I was thrilled since as a 16 year old I felt that endorsed my maturity... until my Dad took it from me :-P) After that I flew to Japan, with another 16 year-old, by ourselves! If you wonder what made me a plane geek that was it... My first plane ride was full of whimsy... traveling ostensibly alone to the other side of the planet on a HUGE 747-400, well that did it. I've been hooked and enamoured by planes ever since.
As I mentioned on Iheartvodka's blog (he is a fellow geek, though more of a Mileage Plus (if you aren't a member, please let me know so I can sign you up and we both get bonus miles!) geek - but we are sisters in that respect for sure! He's PremEx and I am a lowly Premier....) Though lately the planes are so full and the service is so bad it makes me almost not want to fly.... well almost... I can't help it - the rush of take-off and the thrill of landing...
Of course now it is all about finding ways to scam business class - coach is too much these days!

I used to be a spotter actually... but then I ran out of free time... :-P
I have to admit I'm not a big seatguru user, you'd think I would be... I need to start using that site more...
while we are on the subject - www.flyertalk.com - indispensible!
And yes - I too will base my trip on the aircraft type!

Yeah, flying in the front is the only way to go. :-) But Seatguru is really useful when you have to sit in back.

I hate the 777 with a passion. Ugh. The back shakes sideways like a fish's tail having a seizure. Give me a 767 anytime. If I'm going a long distance I really do prefer 3 engines or more, but that usually means the 747, and I have mixed feelings about that.
Boeing pretty much ceded the market to Airbus on technology and innovation for a very long time (how many derivatives can you have of the 737?), and lost the magic of McDonnell Douglas. Give me DC 10 over half those bland Boeings any day.

I think my favorite is the 757. Not really sure why, but they always seem to be overpowered. My next favorite would have to be the 777, as the 747's are just so damn uncomfortable in economy.
TOS: Not a big seatguru user? That site has save me on multiple occasions!! Although sometimes the yellow seats aren't nearly as bad as they imply.

P.S. I'm a little nervous about making Prem Exec again this year. Tickets are OUT OF CONTROL expensive. I might have to save up my money for a mileage run to Singapore to make it. Not my idea of a good time!

I just haven't been a big seatguru user in the past, not sure why. I love the idea and the site itself but since I fly the same routes and planes pretty regularly I rely on the seatmap in my head and am usually not too disappointed...
But I will tell you, whenever I fly an airline other than one I am familiar with (i.e. anything other than UAL) I'm on that site like white on rice... though I am sad to say the only OA I have been on lately is my former employer, ScrewUSAirways...
