Good news!
I have some good news! While it was expected, I got into grad school today! I won't get my official letter for a couple of weeks but my prof told me in class tonight that I was accepted. I was expecting this, especially seeing as I spoke with perhaps every member of the department prior to my interview today. But the very good news is that I was awarded a fellowship!!! I'd been sortof planning on this too but it was a competitive fellowship so there were no guarantees. Basically I will get the majority of my tuition paid for by a local county government (which is unusual since I am attending a private university - ranked 21st by US News and World Reports for Schools of Education... ;-) and $500/month stipend. I will do my fellowship in a local school starting in September while I attend school at night fulltime. After a year I will be offered a job either at that school or somewhere else in the system (fellows in this program have a 100% placement rate :-) For those of you who are new to this blog and my lil life, I'm becoming a K-12 ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher after more than 7 years as a marketing exec...
Only downside, I can't work during the week since I will be teaching fulltime and going to school fulltime. But that is ok by me, I have applied for financial aid and will live off loans for the next year. Worth it for the guarenteed job and ability to focus on my studies without the distraction of non-related work during the day (I'll be teaching and using what I learn as opposed to being an administrator or office manager etc.)
So tomorrow I will be giving my boss the unofficial notice that I intend to leave by the 1st week of August. He is going to FREAK OUT. But such is life. Once he stops hyperventilating about the fate of the department I think he'll be happy for me. After all, this is a $25,000 award and it would take me FOREVER to get that by taking 1 course a semester b/c of my crazy work schedule.
So tomorrow I will do what most of you know I do best...
Quit my job (LOL) well sortof... I have some Pride pics and commentary to write but I've been busy all day with schoolwork. But I just had to share... :-)
YAY!

Update: the boss is very happy for me. I'd hoped he would be. He's been under way too much pressure lately which is what worried me. So we're in good shape and I'm glad. He's a great reference and also a nice guy so I don't want to screw anyone.
Oh and I'm defecting to suburbia... I'll be teaching in an affluent county close to DC. I need to work in a stable environment and get my teaching experience solidified before I attempt working in a morass of problems like DC.
