Frozen Tsunami
Howdy all. What a crazy week. School ended rather anti-climatically, I really didn't get to say goodbye as many people as I would have liked. It was weird how everyone, students and teachers, just immediately dispersed! Not that I blame them, we're all exhausted and ready for summer break, but I don't think I will be going back to that school - no open jobs there :-( I would have liked to just thank everyone. I am going to send emails and cards etc. Here's a quick rundown of my life at the moment (not that it is anything interesting, this is more for me than you guys ;-)
- School is out (yay) but I start teaching summer school on Monday (boo!) but I get paid well (double yay - finally an actual income again!) and it isn't a lot of time (yay), close commute (I could walk there if it wasn't 9 million degrees and humid out) and I have a lot of autonomy in what I want to teach (yay!) -- too bad I am teaching Math (boo!) which I am not great at, though it will be very good resume experience! (yay!)
- I am taking two courses online right now through the end of August (yay for no going to a class, boo! for not getting any break in my studies) I thought they would be a little easier to deal with since they are online, but actually they require way more management than a regular class. You have to post so many little comments, discussion points, online chats etc. Thankfully one of them is a technology class with a cool instructor (he's in Korea actually - neat huh!) I just need to get organized, buckle down and forget that I (used to) have a life a year ago at this time... After these classes I have one more class that starts in July 2 nights a week, my comprehensive exam and then I am DONE, yes DONE with my Master's!!! Some time in August I plan on going on a bender - would you like to join me?
- I got my first official rejection. :-( It was for an adult ESOL job at night. The hours weren't great but the people were and my interviews went so well! The inside-tip I got from my spies said that they had done all the paperwork on the 2 candidates who applied before I did. They were just interviewing me as a back-up or a courtesy I guess. It was good practice but I really had to hustle to get to the interviews, get back and forth etc. UGH. It's ok I really want the elementary job teaching ESOL anyhow. I can't think much more about jobs right now b/c it is sortof depressing. ESOL numbers are dropped in the DC Metro area and shifting to the far-flung burbs with "developing" school systems. Hopefully an angel will watch over me and get me a position in a good system before September!
- Boo is great - I snapped some adorable pics of him and Shelly at like 6am this morning in the dawn sunlight. So cute!
- Shelly is great! She sheds like crazy and I had to buy a new vac which I already had to unclog from all the hair! Who knew?! Still I love her so much. She is such a great pet. I love going to the dogpark at like 6:00PM everyday. There are lots of cool dogowners to chit-chat with. Plus the weather has been awesome lately and we stay for like an hour!
Overall, I still feel happy and can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. Come on August!

Tos is ESOL ESL? We didn't have too many of them out in Chantilly (Yes, VA not MA). BTW's I am going to Nashcille this weekend to visit Dagmar, Donkey, Hannah Louise, Marsha Fae, Leena and Clara! I'll say hey for ya!
9:54 a.m.
That is what it used to be called - but a lot of students already speak second, third, languages etc. ESOL is the more PC name :-)
Say yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha to Nash Bridges for me!
